Who is Ousmane Sonko?
Ousmane Sonko, president of the PASTEF-LES PATRIOTES party, was born on July 15, 1974 in Thiès to a Casamance father and a Baol-Baol mother. Ousmane Sonko spent part of his childhood in Sébikotane. After spending a few years there, he returned to the natural region of Casamance where he grew up until 1993. With his baccalaureate in hand that year, he took charge of the Gaston Berger University of Saint-Louis, Unité of training and research (UFR) of Legal Sciences where he specializes in public law.
“He always said that he would fight for his country and show that we can do politics without compromising ourselves, exist without losing the values that inhabited great men, perfect examples in a society sick of its politicians », Reports one of his relatives.

He joined the Association of Muslim Pupils and Students of Senegal (AEEMS) very early on, where he was very active. With his master’s degree in hand in 1999, he passed the entrance exam to the National School of Administration (ENA) tax and domains section.
After only two years in the administration, he created the Autonomous Union of Tax and Domain Agents (SAID) with significant progress for employees at all levels. This gave him real legitimacy in his professional body,” assures Faye. On the proposal of the civil service disciplinary council, the President of the Republic, Macky Sall, by decree no. 22016-1239, removed Ousmane Sonko.
